Il cuore pulsante della “Blue Zone” sarda batte ancora forte. Villagrande Strisaili si conferma una delle capitali mondiali della longevità celebrando l’ingresso nel club dei centenari del signor Peppino Melis, che ieri, 20 gennaio 2026, ha tagliato il prestigioso traguardo del secolo di vita.

Non è stata solo una festa privata, ma un momento di orgoglio collettivo che ha visto riunite le massime autorità locali per rendere omaggio a un uomo che rappresenta la memoria storica del paese. A festeggiare “Ziu Peppino”, oltre alla numerosa famiglia composta da nipoti e pronipoti, erano presenti: il Sindaco, in rappresentanza di tutta l’Amministrazione Comunale, il parroco Don Giuliano Pilia, il Maresciallo Jonathan Marra e gli agenti della Polizia Locale.

La presenza delle forze dell’ordine e delle istituzioni sottolinea il valore che la figura dell’anziano ricopre nelle comunità ogliastrine: non solo un parente da festeggiare, ma un custode di saggezza e un simbolo di resilienza.

Nato nel 1926, Peppino Melis ha attraversato un secolo di storia, dalle fatiche del dopoguerra ai cambiamenti della modernità, mantenendo intatto quel legame con le proprie radici che è il marchio di fabbrica di Villagrande. La sua longevità conferma ancora una volta le statistiche che vedono questo comune ai vertici delle classifiche mondiali per numero di centenari in rapporto alla popolazione.
