With dozens of breathtaking beaches and a lively and carefree village, Villasimius is one of the most appreciated and well-known tourist resorts in sardinia. Here the days pass slowly between sunbathing sessions, boat trips, and lunches overlooking the sea. The evenings light up in the lounge bars that overlook the main street of the city center and continue in the premises of the area. Among these stands out one of the longest-lived clubs on the island, the Sciabecco, “theater” of summer evenings for 26 long years.

We went to discover this historic disco, the only club in southeastern Sardinia, which after two years of limitations caused by the pandemic officially reopens “the doors of the night” to its audience with music and dancing until the first light of dawn.

We are picked up at the hotel by the shuttle made available by the club. Just call a little in advance and at the scheduled time the vehicle that leads us to the local arrives. We arrive early so that we can enjoy the pre-evening in the large garden of 2000 square meters.

We sit at a table by the pool, made sparkling by the thousand lights of the room. Lights that we see again on the lawn with the puffs illuminated where you can sit to drink the drinks ordered at the counter. From the cocktail menu we immediately notice the particular attention paid to the choice of labels. We order two Gin Tonics, one with Bombay and one with Hendrick’s, and two Moscow mules with Grey Goose vodka.

While sipping our drinks the Sciabecco begins to populate: girls and boys between 25 and 40 years (entry is strictly allowed only to adults) inaugurate the dances in the three different areas, each with different genres. The people of Sciabecco are a mix of tourists from all over the world and young people coming from all over Sardinia. Bottles of champagne travel non-stop from the bar to the privée, accompanied by twinkling lights.

We get carried away by the “Club philosophy” of the place and slide from one musical genre to another. First we dance to the rhythm of the summer 2022 catchphrases in the garden in front of the pool, where the DJ mixes commercial and reggaeton. After about an hour we move inside. In the first room the evening is dedicated to trap and hip-hop music with the younger audience unleashed. Not far away is the international house to take the stage.

The night flows fast under the starry sky of Villasimius. Between dances, drinks with friends and carefree smiles you really feel on vacation. The city is far away, the efforts of a year of work even more and it is easy not to notice the hours that pass to the rhythm of music.

Before going to sleep, escorted by the Sciabecco shuttle, we stop with Simone Murgioni, manager of the restaurant who tells us the story of this disco and shares with us some previews for this 2022. “Over the years, top world DJs such as Carl Cox and Timo Maas have alternated in consoles and also in this summer 2022 – he assures – they will come to mix in the southeast coast of the island, important names on the international scene”.

È il rifugio per animali più grande di tutta la Sardegna, I Fratelli Minori a Olbia, della LIDA: attualmente ospita circa 510 cani e 280 gatti, animali spesso salvati da abbandoni, maltrattamenti o situazioni di emergenza. Dietro questo immenso lavoro si cela una macchina solidale che funziona grazie a una fitta rete di volontari, supportata da pochi dipendenti e veterinari. Una realtà che, nonostante la scarsità di risorse – i finanziamenti pubblici coprono appena un sesto del fabbisogno annuale – continua ogni giorno a salvare vite.

A guidare questo rifugio è Cosetta Prontu, il cuore pulsante di un progetto che unisce accoglienza, cura e speranza. «Gestire un rifugio delle nostre dimensioni è un’impresa che solo i “folli” di cuore possono intraprendere – spiega Cosetta –. Eppure non sono sola in questa avventura: ho la fortuna di avere accanto collaboratori straordinari con cui formiamo una squadra meravigliosa, unita dalla stessa passione e dedizione».

La sua battaglia non conosce sosta. Cosetta è in prima linea 365 giorni l’anno, 24 ore su 24, affrontando emergenze di ogni tipo: animali feriti, malati, abbandonati sotto il sole o in piena pioggia, cucciolate recuperate in condizioni disperate. Eppure, la sua forza non viene mai meno: «Ogni volta che mi incammino lungo i viali del rifugio, vengo accolta dagli sguardi colmi d’amore dei nostri amici a quattro zampe. Loro sono i veri maestri, capaci di colmare di affetto una giornata difficile e di infondere coraggio quando le sfide sembrano insormontabili».

Nel rifugio operano anche dipendenti, veterinari, operatori, ma è la forza del volontariato che permette di sostenere le attività ordinarie e straordinarie: cure, cibo, medicine, salvataggi d’urgenza, accoglienza per gli animali più fragili. Non mancano infatti le emergenze, tra cani investiti, gatti malati, cucciolate abbandonate e condizioni meteo estreme.

Cosetta Prontu

Cosetta ha saputo costruire anche una rete internazionale di adozioni, facendo arrivare molti dei suoi animali in tutta Italia e persino in Germania. Per lei, però, il vero traguardo è un altro: «Il sogno di vedere le gabbie vuote è ciò che alimenta la nostra lotta quotidiana. Per questo ci battiamo per la sterilizzazione e per educare le persone: non dovrebbero esistere canili».

Quella del rifugio è una realtà dura, che richiede enormi sacrifici e affronta sfide quotidiane, ma che vive grazie alla forza di chi non si arrende. «Ci sono momenti in cui torno su quei viali a contemplare quegli occhi pieni di speranza, e a volte chiedo perdono a chi non ha ancora trovato casa. Ma continuerò a lottare per loro, finché ogni sguardo si trasformerà in un sorriso in una nuova famiglia».

Un impegno che va oltre la gestione quotidiana e che rappresenta un modello di civiltà, di empatia e di comunità. «Insieme possiamo creare un mondo in cui ogni cane trovi la sua casa e dove la vita in rifugio sia solo un ricordo del passato. Grazie a chi ci supporta in questo viaggio di speranza».

Se Cosetta Prontu fosse alla guida di una multinazionale, forse sarebbe celebrata sulle copertine delle riviste economiche. Ma a lei, come a chi ogni giorno lavora “in trincea”, non interessa la gloria. «Ci interessa salvare vite e far capire che un mondo più giusto e generoso è possibile – racconta –. Serve solo scegliere di agire. Ogni giorno».
