Parigi, 12 luglio 2025 – Le Domus de Janas, antiche tombe scavate nella roccia e simbolo della civiltà prenuragica della Sardegna, sono ufficialmente entrate nella Lista del Patrimonio Mondiale dell’Umanità dell’UNESCO. L’annuncio è arrivato oggi da Parigi, durante la sessione del Comitato del Patrimonio Mondiale, coronando un percorso iniziato nel 2018 e promosso dal Centro Studi “Identità e Memoria” (Cesim), con la Regione Sardegna e l’UNESCO del Ministero della Cultura tra i principali protagonisti istituzionali. Comune capofila della candidatura: Alghero.

«È un traguardo storico – ha dichiarato la presidente della Regione Sardegna, Alessandra Todde – che sancisce il valore universale del nostro patrimonio archeologico e culturale. Le domus de janas non sono solo vestigia antichissime, ma vere e proprie espressioni identitarie di un popolo, oggi riconosciute a livello mondiale. Il loro ingresso nella lista UNESCO è il risultato di un lavoro collettivo e apre nuove prospettive per il turismo culturale, la valorizzazione delle aree interne e l’occupazione locale».

Le domus de janas, che in lingua sarda significa “case delle fate”, sono tombe preistoriche scavate nella roccia tra il Neolitico e l’Età del Rame, diffuse in tutta la Sardegna. Si stima che sull’isola ne esistano oltre 3.500, di cui 210 arricchite da decorazioni simboliche e rituali che testimoniano il pensiero spirituale e l’arte della civiltà prenuragica.

Il riconoscimento UNESCO si è concretizzato attraverso l’inserimento del sito seriale denominato “Arte e architettura della Sardegna preistorica. Le Domus de Janas”, comprendente 17 necropoli e aree archeologiche di altissimo valore storico e culturale.
