Villasimius, a tourist destination where holidaymakers, locals and foreigners flock to spend the summer season. In the evening, when the air gets cooler, people populate the streets of the town, animated by restaurants, bars and nightclubs. During the day, however, you go to discover the fifteen beaches with crystal clear water that characterize the territory: Porto Giunco, Punta Molentis, Campulongu, Simius, the Rice Beach, Campus, Porto sa Ruxi, are just some of the unspoiled beauties that deserve to be fully experienced.

It is precisely inspired by the concept of living the days at the beach that Poke Island has built the philosophy of its activity. We went to experience this new way of “making restaurant on the beach”.

We spend a relaxing day in simius beach, with its white sand and turquoise water. Between sunbathing and a dip in the sea comes lunchtime and, tired of the usual sandwich, we decide to try the dish of the moment, the pokè, which is becoming more and more famous in the beaches of Villasimius.

On the menu of Poke Island the protagonist is the poke, a dish of Hawaiian origin but now known and consumed all over the world. Let’s take a look at the ingredients with which to compose our bowl and we immediately realize that from oriental flavors – such as that of teriyaki sauce combined with raw fish and tropical fruit on a sushi rice base – we move on to more traditional flavors such as barley, cherry tomatoes, dried tomatoes, zucchini, EVO oil, and many others.

Ordering is really simple: we use the Deliveroo application on our smartphone to choose what to eat and compose the bowl with the ingredients we like the most, we specify which beach we are on and that’s it! Now, all that remains is to enjoy the wait comfortably lying under our umbrella. After a few minutes our poke arrives and we can enjoy the lunch overlooking the sea.

Eating our bowl overlooking the sea makes us feel really on vacation, we do not know if for the beauty of the landscape that we have before our eyes or for the freshness and colors of the dish: a mix of fruits, vegetables, sauces, and toppings that combined with the carbohydrate base form a complete lunch.

Thanks to the vegan and vegetarian variants, poke is a dish for everyone, and if the first time you do not know which ingredients to combine you can be inspired by ready-made alternatives. To compose our dish we ask for advice from Alessia, who guides us to the discovery of salmon, shrimp, pink ginger, edamame, nori seaweed, and other exotic dishes.

Poke Island combines the versatility and freedom of composing your own bowl with a wide choice of ingredients with the possibility of enjoying it in our favorite place, which in our case is the beach.

We create our taste, we choose what we like best and we receive our ready dish directly on our sunbed. We accompany it with an ice cold beer and then we return to the “labors” of bathing life.

Nel cuore del Mediterraneo, tra le acque limpide della Sardegna meridionale, si cela un segreto antico, custodito da una creatura marina maestosa: la Pinna nobilis, conosciuta anche come nacchera di mare. Questo gigantesco bivalve, che un tempo poteva superare il metro di lunghezza, è oggi una specie severamente protetta, a rischio di estinzione per colpa dell’inquinamento, del riscaldamento globale e dell’attività umana. Un tempo veniva pescato anche per scopi alimentari; oggi la sua raccolta è vietata e punita severamente.

Pinna nobilis

Ma la Pinna nobilis è anche la fonte di una fibra straordinaria e quasi dimenticata: il bisso marino, noto come “seta del mare”. Una seta naturale, sottilissima e resistente, capace di brillare come oro sotto la luce del sole. Ed è proprio in Sardegna, nell’isola di Sant’Antioco, che sopravvive uno degli ultimi baluardi di questa antichissima arte: Chiara Vigo.

Maestra di tessitura e depositaria di una tradizione millenaria, Chiara Vigo non è solo un’artigiana: è una testimone vivente di un sapere ancestrale, che unisce spiritualità, dedizione e profondo rispetto per la natura. Nel suo laboratorio, un vero e proprio museo vivente, accoglie chiunque voglia conoscere quest’arte unica, condividendo conoscenze e valori tramandati oralmente da generazioni.

Chiara non vende il bisso. Per lei non è merce, ma dono sacro del mare, da trattare con umiltà e gratitudine. Il suo insegnamento parte da un giuramento, ereditato dalla nonna Leonilde: non commercializzare mai ciò che si riceve dalla natura e trasmettere il sapere solo a chi è disposto a sacrificarsi per imparare.

Il procedimento per ottenere la seta del mare è lento e complesso, scandito da gesti antichi e rituali. Ogni Pinna nobilis può produrre circa 40 centimetri di filamento, ma Chiara ne seleziona solo pochi centimetri, i più puri. Dopo la raccolta, il bioccolo viene immerso in acqua dolce per quasi un mese, con continui cambi d’acqua ogni tre ore. Poi si passa alla sbiancatura con succo di limone e all’ammollo in una miscela segreta di quindici alghe diverse, che rendono il filo flessibile ed elastico.

Infine, il bisso viene filato a mano, utilizzando un fuso di ginepro. La torsione del filo cambia a seconda dell’uso: a “S” per il ricamo, a “Z” per l’intreccio nel lino, secondo un’antichissima tecnica fatta con le unghie. Il risultato è un filo più sottile di un capello, ma incredibilmente resistente. Il bisso non marcisce, non viene attaccato dagli insetti, è impermeabile e ha proprietà isolanti. Nessun’altra fibra naturale al mondo possiede le sue stesse caratteristiche.

Su un telaio manuale, Chiara tesse opere dense di simbolismo: alberi della vita, pavoni, lune, leoni guardiani, navicelle nuragiche. Ogni figura è un messaggio, una preghiera, un frammento di identità sarda e mediterranea. Oggi, oltre settanta dei suoi lavori si trovano tra il laboratorio di Sant’Antioco e prestigiosi musei internazionali come il Museum der Kulturen di Basilea o il Museo Nazionale delle Arti di Roma.

Conosciuta affettuosamente come “Zia Chiara”, accoglie ogni visitatore con il dono di un filo di bisso, che splende come una piccola fiamma. Non si paga nulla per assistere al suo lavoro: ciò che lei offre è una lezione di vita, un invito alla consapevolezza e al rispetto. Dal 2005, migliaia di persone da ogni parte del mondo arrivano a Sant’Antioco per vederla tessere, ascoltare le sue parole, sentire il silenzio che accompagna ogni gesto.
