Ogliastra is a land full of wonders: from the turquoise sea to the wild mountain, it is one of the places in Sardinia where you feel the most contact with nature. An uncontaminated nature to be discovered with the support of those who know this land very well.

How many times have you wanted to go on a hike but have never dared because you thought it was too tiring, that you did not have the right physique or that you were unable to endure so many kilometers of walking? Luca Deiana, qualified hiking guide, with his passion and knowledge of the most magical Sardinian routes manages to infect and
drag any hiker with him: from the novice to the most experienced.

Since childhood Luca Deiana has had a passion for nature and this is where his path begins, always consistent up to the Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences and Technologies, the achievement of the AIGAE title, and access to the regional Register of environmental guides. His training and his innate interest in botany, geology, and biodiversity, combined with the desire to explore the territory by finding every detail and secret, have forged over time an expert, reliable, professional figure with a single purpose: to transmit his passion to his companions through Hiking for you, the company he owns.

From Ogliastra to Nuoro, from Sulcis to Campidano, there is no limit for him: his routes are all special. Although there is always a favorite for which the heart beats a little faster. For Luca Deiana the most trodden route is undoubtedly the wild Ogliastra Supramonte, with its panoramas and its unmatched historical, archaeological, botanical, geological and gastronomic heritage. The sea that seems unreachable and that calls you from below with its crystalline blue. The scent of cistus, the magic of the nuragic columbine in bloom and the wonderful feeling of being at home. His eyes light up when he tells us how nice it is to welcome your companions early in the morning, when everything around is silent. Or when hikers are caught by the surprise of those who discover the fossil of a sea shell on top of the Supramonte. How is it possible?

But what does it take to share a journey with him, in addition to a backpack, comfortable shoes, and a packed lunch when the journey does not include a stop at the fold? His answer is instantaneous: the desire to discover and challenge one’s limits by leaving one’s comfort zone. And what happens after the excursion? Luca Deiana calls it the Supramonte pain: the desire to relive the experience arrives, where the rest doesn’t exist and there is only you, to challenge yourself and enjoy all that nature offers with the feeling of having left a family to return to as soon as possible.

Protagonista è Enzo, un giovane esemplare maschio di grifone nato in Andalusia nel 2023, la cui vita si è intrecciata con il destino di una coppia austriaca innamorata della Sardegna, prima di finire tragicamente tra le rocce del Monte Ortobene. La sua storia è stata raccontata dall’Agenzia Regionale Forestas e immortalata negli scatti del fotografo Matteo Cara.

Dopo un esordio difficile in Spagna, dove era stato recuperato stremato e affamato dalle autorità locali, Enzo era stato curato nel centro specializzato dell’ONG AMUS. La sua seconda possibilità era arrivata grazie al progetto internazionale Safe for Vultures, che mira a ripopolare i cieli sardi. Insieme ad altri venti coetanei, Enzo era approdato nell’Isola nel marzo 2024, destinato a diventare uno dei pilastri della nuova colonia nel Sarrabus-Gerrei.

Proprio durante le fasi di controllo sanitario a Bonassai, il destino del grifone ha incrociato quello di Heinz ed Evelyn Watska. I due coniugi austriaci, trasferitisi nel sud della Sardegna, condividono da sempre la passione per il volo: Heinz, pilota di alianti da cinquant’anni, ha visto in quel maestoso uccello un’anima affine. Affascinati dall’eleganza dei grifoni, i Watska hanno deciso di finanziare l’acquisto del rilevatore GPS per l’esemplare, battezzandolo proprio “Enzo” (Heinz tradotto in italiano).

Liberato nell’ottobre 2024, Enzo ha confermato subito la sua natura di esploratore indomito. Dopo una breve sosta nel Gerrei e nel Bosano, a marzo 2025 il grifone ha puntato verso il cuore dell’Isola, raggiungendo il Monte Ortobene. La sua apparizione è stata un evento storico: i grifoni erano scomparsi dal Nuorese dagli anni Ottanta. Per settimane, fotografi e naturalisti — tra cui il geografo Matteo Cara — hanno documentato i suoi voli spettacolari, vedendo in lui il simbolo di una natura che si riappropria dei suoi spazi.

Ma l’incanto si è rotto bruscamente a fine marzo 2025. Una fucilata, esplosa da un ignoto malintenzionato, ha interrotto il volo di Enzo dopo soli cinque mesi di libertà. Un atto di bracconaggio inspiegabile che ha colpito non solo un animale protetto, ma l’impegno di un intero network internazionale e la generosità di due cittadini europei che avevano scelto di investire nel patrimonio sardo.

Nonostante il dolore per la perdita del “loro” Enzo, Heinz ed Evelyn non hanno intenzione di arrendersi. Consapevoli dei pericoli che minacciano questi animali — dai veleni alle linee elettriche, fino alla crudeltà umana — i coniugi hanno confermato il loro sostegno al progetto di conservazione. La fine di Enzo resta una macchia scura sulla coscienza del territorio, ma la sua storia ha acceso un riflettore sulla necessità di proteggere i giganti dei cieli, affinché il suo sacrificio non resti vano.
