Ogliastra is a land full of wonders: from the turquoise sea to the wild mountain, it is one of the places in Sardinia where you feel the most contact with nature. An uncontaminated nature to be discovered with the support of those who know this land very well.

How many times have you wanted to go on a hike but have never dared because you thought it was too tiring, that you did not have the right physique or that you were unable to endure so many kilometers of walking? Luca Deiana, qualified hiking guide, with his passion and knowledge of the most magical Sardinian routes manages to infect and
drag any hiker with him: from the novice to the most experienced.

But if you don’t need to be great athletes or new Bear Grills to explore the wild mountains and pristine beaches, between streams, caves, gorges and animals that occasionally appear, what characteristics do you need to have to experience such an experience? Since childhood Luca Deiana has had a passion for nature and this is where his path begins, always consistent up to the Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences and Technologies, the achievement of the AIGAE title, and access to the regional Register of environmental guides. His training and his innate interest in botany, geology, and biodiversity, combined with the desire to explore the territory by finding every detail and secret, have forged over time an expert, reliable, professional figure with a single purpose: to transmit his passion to his companions through Hiking for you, the company he owns.

From Ogliastra to Nuoro, from Sulcis to Campidano, there is no limit for him: his routes are all special. Although there is always a favorite for which the heart beats a little faster. For Luca Deiana the most trodden route is undoubtedly the wild Ogliastra Supramonte, with its panoramas and its unmatched historical, archaeological, botanical, geological and gastronomic heritage. The sea that seems unreachable and that calls you from below with its crystalline blue. The scent of cistus, the magic of the nuragic columbine in bloom and the wonderful feeling of being at home. His eyes light up when he tells us how nice it is to welcome your companions early in the morning, when everything around is silent. Or when hikers are caught by the surprise of those who discover the fossil of a sea shell on top of the Supramonte. How is it possible?

Those who rely on Hiking for you discover that the earth that you walk on with your hiking shoes is the result of millions of years of history, evolution, erosion. How many winters have those rocks gone by? What is the name of that peeping flower?

But what does it take to share a journey with him, in addition to a backpack, comfortable shoes, and a packed lunch when the journey does not include a stop at the fold? His answer is instantaneous: the desire to discover and challenge one’s limits by leaving one’s comfort zone. And what happens after the excursion? Luca Deiana calls it the Supramonte pain: the desire to relive the experience arrives, where the rest doesn’t exist and there is only you, to challenge yourself and enjoy all that nature offers with the feeling of having left a family to return to as soon as possible.

Nuorese, Daniele Lorrai, 41 anni, ha uno sguardo che sembra sempre rivolto oltre l’orizzonte. Le sue radici affondano in due territori profondamente legati alla natura sarda: il padre è ogliastrino, di Osini, mentre la madre è di Lula. Forse anche da qui nasce il suo legame viscerale con i paesaggi selvaggi dell’isola e con i suoi animali.

Quella per la fotografia naturalistica non è solo un secondo lavoro ma una vera e propria ragione di vita. Una vocazione nata da bambino, quando preferiva i documentari sugli animali ai cartoni animati, e che non lo ha mai abbandonato.

Oggi Daniele è uno dei fotografi naturalisti più attenti e rispettati della Sardegna. Il suo mondo è fatto di silenzio, attesa e osservazione, in perfetta sintonia con il suo carattere riservato. «La natura è il mio elemento». Ed è proprio lì, spesso da solo, che trascorre intere giornate in appostamento: anche dieci ore senza scattare una sola foto. Perché la fotografia di animali selvatici non è questione di velocità, ma di costanza e pazienza.

Lo dimostra una delle sue imprese più celebri: per riuscire a fotografare il gatto selvatico ha impiegato due anni di tentativi, diventando uno dei primi a immortalarlo e a dedicargli un vero servizio fotografico. Un risultato frutto di una dedizione assoluta.

Astori, aquile, grifoni, mufloni, civette, volpi, gabbiani, falchi: sono loro i protagonisti delle sue immagini. E tra tutti, Daniele ha un amore particolare per i rapaci, «perché sono liberi e fieri, e hanno un fascino unico». L’aquila del Bonelli, ad esempio, gli ha richiesto sei anni di lavoro, condivisi con altri fotografi e appassionati ( Antonio Pisanu, Antonello Lande e Marco Lutzu) tra segnalazioni, tentativi e appostamenti interminabili.

Le sue zone del cuore sono alcune delle aree più selvagge e fortunate dell’isola: Baronia, Gennargentu e Ogliastra, territori dove la biodiversità sarda si esprime al massimo.

Nel 2019 ha pubblicato il libro “Wild Mediterranean Island”, edito da Oberon Media, una raccolta di dieci anni di lavoro che rappresenta una vera e propria celebrazione della fauna della Sardegna. Le sue fotografie non si limitano a documentare: raccontano l’essenza degli animali, colta in attimi irripetibili durante appostamenti pazienti e rispettosi.

Daniele è un perfezionista: prima di ogni scatto c’è studio, osservazione e una presenza quotidiana sul campo. Poi, certo, serve anche la fortuna. Ma quando l’incontro avviene, nasce qualcosa di unico. La foto a cui è più legato è la sua prima aquila, scattata nel 2015 dopo un mese di appostamento: un’immagine che per lui rappresenta una svolta.

E mentre continua a inseguire il suo scatto ancora mancante — il ghiro sardo — Daniele non esclude nuovi progetti fotografici per il futuro. Nel suo cassetto c’è un sogno chiaro: riuscire a vivere di fotografia e poter dedicare tutto il suo tempo a questa passione.

È bello sapere che esistono ancora fotografi che si mettono al servizio dell’immagine, aspettando giorni, mesi o anni pur di raccontare la natura con rispetto e verità. Perché certe fotografie non si scattano: si conquistano.
