The discovery of the Ogliastra coves, between nature and typical specialties

In the Mediterranean there is a strip of paradise between cliffs that rise from the sea, breathtaking inlets, pristine and crystal clear waters. We are talking about the Gulf of Orosei, set like a precious jewel on the east coast of Sardinia.

The staff of the Glentor motor ship travels daily to discover the marine paradise of Ogliastra. Let’s get on board.

A large boat to spend a mini-cruise in maximum comfort, accompanied by a highly trained and highly experienced crew, the result of the wise knowledge of the seabed of the area.

Glentor sails on time every morning at 8.30, from the port of Arbatax to embark on an evocative journey along the coast, admiring and experiencing the island’s most beautiful coves, many of which can only be reached from the sea.

Leaving the picturesque fishing village of Ogliastra, you can admire the islet of Ogliastra with the vivid colors of pink granite and red porphyry that sprout among the resilient vegetation.

Immediately after passing in front of Santa Maria Navarrese, the limestone-dolomitic rock of Pedra Longa appears overlooking the sea, “guardian” of the treasures and secrets of the area. From the spectacular Baus waterfalls, passing through the Grotta of Colombi and Capo Monte Santo, you will reach two suggestive fjords: Cala Scirocco and Cala Tramontana.

In the latter, also known as “Portu Quau”, Commander Silverio Musella, in a respectful ritual, narrates the tragic story of the great Levante boat, the remains of which can be glimpsed among the transparent waters in the seabed.

Continuing to sail, you reach the vault of the extraordinary Cala Goloritzé with its characteristic arch, where the beach and the sea appear like a painting. Leaving this strip of the “marine” garden of Eden, we arrive at Cala Mariolu.

Here you can choose whether to disembark, with the possibility of renting an umbrella on board, or a guided tour of the Grotta del Fico, to admire the particular limestone concretions, once the kingdom of the monk seal.

Once back on board, navigation resumed, in the cozy dining room, you can enjoy an appetizer based on zero-kilometer cheeses and cold cuts. Ham, bacon, and coppa are strictly from the area, while immersed in the wild beauty of the Baunese coast.

But the great star of the lunch on board Glentor is the fregola with seafood, prepared with the ancient Ponzese seafood recipe, handed down for generations and expertly cooked by chef Antonella Cauli Muggiri. The cuttlefish and squid sauce is combined with the delicious taste of crabs, which is enriched with mussels and shrimp tails: a dish with the authentic flavor of the sea. To accompany good Ogliastra wine.

To close a slice of sapa cake with nuts and seasonal fruit.

After this satisfying culinary experience, you arrive at the beach of Cala Luna, where you can disembark and relax in one of the most evocative places on the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Afterward, when the route is reversed, the motor ship offers an exciting experience on the beach of Cala Sisine. This will also be a stage where you can disembark.

Then we will resume navigation towards Arbatax. It will be an opportunity to review all the coves a second time, for a priceless panorama that will remain engraved in the soul.

We disembark at the port at 18.00, but for the more demanding and for those who love to sail in the evening, there is the possibility of treating yourself to another suggestive experience. A tour of the archipelago, starting at 7.30 pm, navigating the waters of the Ogliastra Island, passing near the Red Rocks, and then visiting the placid waters of Porto
Frailis.

Two and a half hours, in which you can sip a good aperitif accompanied by typical products.
