La Stazione del Pescatore: where you can find seafood specialties in a sandwich

Ogliastra is a strip of paradise enclosed between the sea and the mountains with unique wild and uncontaminated scenarios. Tortolì and the village of Arbatax represent the best-known access to this ancient land, rich in culture, traditions, and food and wine excellence. Here you will discover unique dishes, handed down for generations, made with local products. A place where the holiday is an all-encompassing experience that invests the visitor and every moment is precious to discover new naturalistic beauties.

For lunch we went to the Stazione del Pescatore, where we could taste the local cuisine based on quality fresh fish, without long waiting times.

Here we have found a wide selection of fish recipes served in soft sandwiches or in convenient boxes, where you could customize ingredients and dishes.

We sit in the restaurant to start this journey to discover the typical tastes revisited in quality street food style, but if you want you can order takeaway and consume sandwiches and boxes in the Ogliastra area.

While we wait, we observe the strictly handmade preparation of the sandwiches, starting with the processing of fresh fish with cooking techniques designed to enhance each ingredient.

We opt for a great classic from La Stazione del Pescatore: the octopus sandwich. From the first bite we are surprised by the flavor of the roasted shellfish, enhanced by the combination with aubergines. The dried tomato sauce is enveloping and enhances the other ingredients.

To accompany the sandwiches we recommend the fisherman’s chips. Here the potatoes also have the flavor of the sea: they are sliced fresh, seasoned with mayonnaise, and flavored with lime and mullet bottarga. All this, perhaps, while sipping a craft beer or a local wine.

For a stronger taste experience, try the cuttlefish burger with salad, chips, and mustard mayonnaise. A sandwich that even children like with the right combinations.

The grilled yellowfin tuna steak sandwich, enriched with caramelized cherry tomatoes, courgettes, and basil sauce deserves to be mentioned.

Aromas and flavors that marry each other giving a feeling of freshness. We continue our journey with the tuna salad from the new summer menu. The green salad blends perfectly with the tuna cooked in oil at low temperature and croutons, all enhanced by the combination of green apple and red onion. We also recommend the swordfish
sandwich, with seasonal vegetables and delicate sauces.

Intrigued by the scent that comes from the kitchen, we decide to treat ourselves to fried seafood. Difficult to choose between paranza or squid. In the end, we decide to savor the latter, crunchy and tasty from the first to the last bite.

We also do not miss the cod meatballs, a strictly hand-made specialty. As soon as you bite into the fragrant layer of breadcrumbs, you discover the soft and tasty heart of cod amalgamated with eggs and potatoes.

To close this experience we indulge in a dessert prepared in the restaurant: a flavored mousse with chocolate topping and biscuit grains. A sweet with an enveloping and very refreshing taste. We plan to come back to try the fruit variant and the creme brulee.

While we are enjoying our dessert, we note that the restaurant’s offer includes a veggie menu – vegetarian or vegan -, respecting the ethical choices of the guests. In addition, all foods and ingredients are lactose-free.

We recommend this journey to discover the first quality sea street food “made” in Sardinia, guided by the kindness and sympathy of Sara, Silverio, and all the staff.
